It feel like in the last week or so Ethan has moved over to the other side. He's no longer a baby anymore. He'll still always be my baby, but certainly in the rest of the world you can't call him a baby.
In the last week Ethan has stopped wearing diapers to bed at night and he is in his big boy crib. He is so proud to not wear diapers at night anymore. He's actually had dry night diapers for about 50% of the time for a long while now, but I figured we may as well finish off the pack while we were at it. There were a couple of nights where I bathed him before dinner, so I put his underwear on with his pajamas. When Josh went to put him to bed, he'd forget to put the diaper on so the next morning he came into our bed, stood up, ripped his PJ pants down and exclaim, "Look, me no pee in me fu fu!" It was almost as though he purposely kept the secret all night because he wanted to prove to us that he could do it. Too funny.
We know many other boys about Ethan's age or even younger who have already come out of the crib. I always said that he'd stay in there until 1.) his feet touched the other end or 2.) tried to climb out. This weekend he sort of tried to climb out of his crib so we made the plunge. I'm happy because we managed to hold on long enough to get through the transition to no-nap before we took the rail down. Now that he doesn't nap in the day, when we put him to bed at 7pm, he is OUT! Last night was the first night. It was a little sketchy because he had a nap in the car in the afternoon. Before leaving his room, we told him the rule was that if he didn't want to sleep, he could stay up and read or even get out of bed and play. The only thing was that he had to stay in his room. (Eh hem, we may have even thrown a little threat about putting the crib wall back up if he came out of this room.) He did well for a while, then all of a sudden we heard tears. Full blown, hyperventilating tears. I found him at the door of his room crying into the hall. When he calmed I asked why he was crying. He said, "Cuz me no can come out me room!" Poor guy. With Ethan the 'good angel' talking into his ear always wins and he'll follow "The Rules", but it just kills him because he so badly wants to do the other thing.
We love you so much Ethan and are so proud of you!
xoxo
