I've been wondering if this milestone warrants it's own post, but in the name of recording when it happened for the future, I thought I'd go ahead. I'm an so happy to report...
Ethan is potty trained!!!!
I think there were a few things that put that into high gear for the little man. For a long time now, Ethan has been wearing "dai-fu" (underwear) at home. I think that because of this, he grew to like the comfort of underwear compared to the pull-ups. He would sometimes complain, "My pieces owie" (he can't yet pronounce 'penis'). I don't think that there was anything wrong with his 'pieces' but just that the pulls-up would bunch up and...well I'm sure you get the point. A couple of times we took him out in his dai-fu and I guess he liked that much better. So the times what we couldn't wear dai-fu he'd ask for them, and we'd tell him that if he insisted on wearing them, he'd have to go to use the toilet.
The second incident that I think pushed him toward the end of diapers is he once had an accident in the middle of an aisle at Staples. Luckily I had a change of clothes with me, I sometimes wonder if he was a little embarrassed that it happened, and he's never let it happen again.
About 3 months ago, Ethan would often call out "Pee pee coming!" and the pee is literally coming right then and there. Now that he's better at holding it, he still calls out the same thing. I have to admit that each time, my heart still skips a little beat as I worry that he's in the middle of an accident. The best part of potty training is how proud they are of their accomplishment. Ethan's face just beams when you tell him what a big boy he is.
