Ethan's Birthday Week

This year it felt like Ethan's birthday was a week long celebration. I'm sure it felt that way to him and probably was a little confusing to him. Not that he minded, I'm sure. We had a family party on the Tuesday before his actual birthday because it happened to be a day that everyone could make it. It was the first day of school for me, so Josh took them out for the day, in the afternoon Oma and Opa arrived from Revelstoke and then in the evening Gong-Gong and Po Po came for dinner and cake.

Because he's so obsessed with trucks, his cake was a no-brainer for me. It HAD to be an excavator cake. Good thing for Google and watching enough episodes of Cake Boss on TLC. He was so excited to eat the cake that he blew out the candle before we could even finish singing the first line to "Happy Birthday". He must have known that we wanted to get some pictures of him and the cake before cutting it, because he did sit there for a while without crying or demanding cake (I don't know, perhaps it was all the paparazzi flash bulbs going off). I did notice that he was in no mood to smile though. He just had "eat. cake. now" on the brain.

The birthday boy patiently waiting for us to finish singing to him. Notice the candle is already out!

After cake was time for presents. He was spoiled with both a train table AND a big boy bike. We had one happy boy.

On Thursday we brought a cake to Lucy's so that he could celebrate with the daycare friends. I'm sure he was thinking, "My birthday? Again?" Not that he'd complain because they got to have 2 pieces of cake. He also came home with a ton of gifts and I'll never forget him coming in the door, immediately running for his Woa-Woa and then exclaiming, "Two Woa-Woa!!" as he showed us his new stuffed dog along with beloved Woa-Woa.

On Saturday was his real birthday so we had to stick with our tradition of bringing breakfast into his room while singing Happy Birthday. He was definitely confused by now, but as soon as he saw the muffin with a candle in it, his mind changed to "Eat". Since Oma and Opa were still in town, we decided to pack up the Westies and head to Whistler for an overnight, quickie camping trip.

The weather was gorgeous that weekend and we were initially heading to Nairn Falls (20 mins past Whistler). I don't know what it is with us and bad luck driving to Whistler for camping, but this time there was a bike race going on and so parts of the highway were closed. They were still letting traffic through, but it was S.L.O.W. Part way we decided to just camp at Alice Lake and head to Whistler the next day. We luckily got the last campsite and enjoyed some time at the playground and beach before dinner. The next day we went to Whistler Village for the morning and lunch before heading home.

What a wonderful way to celebrate Ethan's 2nd birthday. Happy birthday my dear sweet little boy! We love you so much. xoxo

Can't wait to go camping again next year. Maybe next year we can all go together with the whole Blommestein gang.
