Singing

The other night Maddy was singing in her highchair so I quickly pulled out the the camera to get it on tape. At first I just filmed from behind because I worried that if she saw the camera all she'd do was ask to see it. So here she is in her singing debut...

A First Look at "Peanut"

Today we went to UC Baby to see a 3D ultrasound of baby Blommestein2. We did the same thing 2 years ago with Maddy and couldn't imagine not doing it again. We were especially excited to find out that "peanut" will be Maddy's baby BROTHER! The technician kept saying how the baby was definitely not shy about showing the boy bits. We are quite excited about having "one of each" but at the same time, I feel worried that I don't know enough about little baby boys. I guess it'll be a whole new learning curve to follow. Maddy came to the session too and the whole car ride there she kept saying "See peanut, see peanut". I'm not sure she knew exactly what we meant by calling my belly "peanut", but perhaps now, she may have a tiny bit of an idea? Who knows. We're trying all we can to get her used to the idea of a sibling. Here are some picture from the session.

The second trimester has been a lot better this time. The nausea has gone away and except for a few aches and pains, it hasn't been too bad. I'm feeling regular movement and I've noticed that "peanut" moves a lot more than I remember Maddy moving. It also feels like this pregnancy is going by a lot faster than the last, but I have a feeling that it has a more to do with being busy chasing after a toddler. Only a few more months, peanut, before we can finally meet you. The three of us can't wait until then.

20 months update

Tomorrow Maddy will be 20 months. Lately we've been looking at her in her car seat and hardly able to believe how grown up she looks. Here are some new things she's been up to:

  • She's found her singing voice. A few of her favourites are "Twinkle, Twinkle", "ABCs", "The Itsy-Bitsy Spider". My favourite part is the "elmo-elmo-pee" part of the alphabet song. Some times she'll be eating in her highchair and just break out in song. I'm trying to get it on video, but she stops when the camera comes out.
  • We are now using the insert for the regular toilet. It sure is nice to not have to clean out the little potty. Just flush it away!! For a little while, she would be more efficient and go faster if Josh held her over the "big girl toilet". Finally we got her the seat insert so she can sit comfortably.
  • Boo-boos are now more common since she's wearing shorts and dresses for the nicer weather. She is pretty proud of the scabs and likes to show them off. She also likes to kiss them herself or ask for kisses. The funniest was one time she fell and hurt her bum, "Dada, bum, owie. Kiss Bum! Kiss Bum!"
  • Maddy still likes books a lot. For a little while she stopped reading during playtime because she was so busy walking around. We're finding that ever since the novelty of walking has worn off, she enjoys reading during play time again. She can ask for most books by name and finishes off the last word of the sentences.
  • Maddy's vocabulary just keeps growing. She can, for the the most part, tell us what she wants. It certainly makes things easier for us. She's also learned things like "I miss you", "Good morning, mama" and "See you!" It makes my heart melt.
It feels like things just get better and better. She is a lot of fun at this stage. She loves to run around and around in circles just screaming with delight. She loves to play with mom and dad and at times, she's content to read books or play by herself.
